Perspectives on McKinsey
Internal McKinsey publication, New York 1979 - Internal McKinsey publication, 1979. Soft cover. First. I believe that I have an original copy of Marvin Bower's privately printed 'for readership only by Firm personnel' Perspectives on McKinsey. It includes a copy of the Memo asking 'anyone who gets a copy' to 'respect the request' .'not to give or loan copies to people outside the firm'. I will respect that request and not give or loan this to you. However, if you want to buy it from me for a large sum of money that might be fine with the late Mr. Bower and is definitely fine with me. This book is in paperback format. Both the title and author's name on the front cover and spine are in blue. A 'New Edition' was published in in hardcover in 2004 and can be purchased for a hundred bucks. My copy has 'Copyright 1979' on the copyright page and no reference to any additional printings. I am offering it to collectors. I can't find another copy of the original for sale anywhere on the internet. This is a truly unique item. It's an understatement to say that Marvin Bower is a revered figure in his field. As you may have noticed I started this out by saying 'I believe'. I'm not certain this is the original. I saw a few pictures of a few copies from 2004 and their copies appeared to have 'Marvin Bower' in black print. Also, the others state 2004 as the publishing date and, as I've said, mine has only the date 1979 in it. The preface is also dated 1979 and I'm not finding any looking back kind of statement. And the 2004 copy has print on the back cover with the words 'From the 2004 introduction'. Nevertheless, I suggest that if you have any doubt at all you should do your own research before buying. How to price this? I have no reference. Has the original 'Written and Privately Printed for Readership by Only the Personnel of McKinsey & Company Inc.' (it says that on the title page) ever been for sale before??? I can't any record of that anywhere. Near Fine. If this book is as rare as I suspect it is, then it is good fortune that the condition is as excellent as it is. Regarding the covers, view the photos. There is very minor wear. Zoom in and examine. The bottom right corner has a semi-crease. There are light spots of soiling here and there. There's a scratch, a tiny tear. The kind of things you wouldn't notice if you weren't looking for them. No one ever wrote anything in the book. No markings, no erasures. It kinda looks like it wasn't read or if it was then reverently. There are no dog-eared pages, no creases, no tears on the pages, no soiling that I noticed on the pages. The book is very well-bound. There are no issues at all there. The copy of the memo is in excellent shape as well. Goes without saying that the book will packed with the utmost care. [Attributes: First Edition; Soft Cover]
