The first edition of this text was published in 1554 (Lucca). Rare copy on blue paper (two sheets of blue guard frame each volume). "Mr. Gaetano Poggiali, to whom we owe this good reprint, had an ex. blue paper and one on vellum. "Brunet I, 637 v.1-3. Prima parte .-- v.4-6. La seconda parte .-- v.7-8. The terza parte .-- v.9. The quarta parte or 28 new four-part. A frontispiece portrait of the author by Emilio Lappi (winds bluish). Full Vellum gilded. Italian bookbinding. Smooth spine ornate. Parts of titles in red morocco. Fillet border on covers. Beautiful series in uniform binding. Matteo Bandello (1480-1565 or 1485-1561) is still famous for its new 214 in number, of a great literary skill, and belong to the same genus as the Decameron of Boccaccio. Popular, they were an important source for the Elizabethan theater, including Shakespeare (Romeo and Juliet). He entered the Benedictine order priest and died in Agen, France. At the court of the Duke of Gonzaga in Mantua under the protection of Isabella d'Este, he was the teacher of the famous Lucrezia Gonzaga. Presso Riccardo Bancker.
