A novel by the astoundingly incompetent Professor of Moral Philosophy at Edinburgh who became famous by his contributions to Blackwood's Magazine under the name of "Christopher North." Thirty years after he assumed the professorship he was still writing to a learned friend, "Who were the Sophists.Write something for me on Beauty and Sublimity." With the bookplate of Emma C[atherine] Embury, "poet and writer of tales.Poe, however was doubtless misled by Mrs. Embury's personal charm when he paid her stories almost lavish tribute."
