First British edition. The second of Warren's three novels, one of the most successful comic novels of the nineteenth century, was first published in BLACKWOOD'S MAGAZINE, October 1839 -- August 1941. Blackmail, lunacy, and suicide follow the legal forgeries of Snap, Gammon and Quirk by which Tittlebat Titmouse fraudulently inherits a fortune and a Yorkshire estate that is not his.
