Journey of the Magi.
New York: William Edwin Rudge, 1927. Small folio, original printed cream wrappers, [6] pages. Small creases in the margins of the wrappers, which are also slightly soiled from handling; fine copy, enclosed in a chemise and cloth slipcase. ΒΆ Eliot's short poem Journey of the Magi was first published in 1927 by Faber & Gwyer as no. 8 in The Ariel Poems series. To secure copyright in the U.S., Faber & Gwyer contracted Rudge to do a printing limited to 27 copies of the eight individual Ariel Poems. 12 of the 27 were available for sale (this one among them) and 15 copies remained as sets of the complete series in the possession of Faber & Gwyer. Several of these surfaced at auction about 30 years ago. This copy has been in private hands for almost 50 years. Of the 27 copies, OCLC records 16 in U.S. libraries.
