The White Stones [doubly inscribed by the poet]
Lincoln: Grosseteste Press, 1969 Book. Very Good. Hardcover. Signed by Author(s). 1st Edition. pp 96 [2] The limited first edition of Jeremy Prynne's fifth volume of verse which is twice inscribed by the author to one of his closest friends. The first inscription in Prynne's faintly calligraphic hand appears on the half title: 'For Tony & Nicole back from the wilds with love Jeremy'. Tony is the novelist Anthony Ward who was a Cambridge contemporary and fellow member of the Prospect group. Ward inherited the editorship of Prospect Magazine from Elaine Feinstein and handed it on to Prynne himself. The poet has added a secondary inscription to the dedication page below the printed dedication 'for Sue' where he has written: '& for Anthony Ward to be read by chance', making this in effect a secondary dedication copy. (Ward had published his own 'May Day: A Letter for Jeremy Prynne' in the The English Intelligencer in 1967) This is number 44 of 477 copies of this volume (numbered in Prynne's hand) which was printed by the Grosseteste Press. There is some old staining to the rear cover of the book, possibly caused by damp. Otherwise about very good if slightly cocked.
