Scrap book containing messages of congratulation upon Anton Dolin's elevation to a knighthood.
1980-1981 1980 - Folio, ringbindier containing letters, telegrams and cards tipped onto card, sent to Anton Dolin to celebrate the knighthood he received in the 1981 New Year's Honours List. The opening leaf has the typed letter on No. 10 Downing Street headed paper informing Anton Dolin that Mrs Thatcher had put him forward to receive a knighthood. Following this are other formal letters concerning the investiture and the role of the Imperial Society of Knights Bachelor. There is a typed letter written on behalf of Princess Margaret on Kensington Palace headed stationary, and then many pages of congratulatory telegrams and letters. Many of the correspondents are hard to pin down as, not surprisingly, they are signed by first names only. Some letters folded, a few missing pieces as evinced by the remaining mounting corners. Correspondents include: Princess Antoinette of Monaco (telegrams) John Gilpin (telegram) John Gielgud (telegram) John Curry (telegram) Natalia Dudinskaya and Konstantin Sergeyev (telegram) Victor Hochhauser (telegram) Yehudi and Diana Menuhin (telegram) John Tooley ROH (telegram) Leonie Urdang (telegram) Greer Garson (telegram) Robert Ossorio (letter) Ginette Spanier (letter) Frederick Ashton (letter) Evelyn Laye (letter) Susan Hampshire (postcard) Norman St John-Stevas (letter) Sold with a copy of Dolin. Friends and Memories (paperback). Closer scrutiny of this may reveal more of the correspondents in the album to the eager researcher. [Attributes: Signed Copy; Soft Cover]
