On pictorial Boston National League letterhead (Babe Ruth?s name is crossed out as Assistant Manager), Braves President Bob Quinn writes to an aspiring baseball scout ? ?We have no minor league clubs, and I do not know just when we could do anything for you at the present time. Why not write to Pittsburgh??
"Typed Letter Signed ?Bob Quinn? as new President of the Boston Braves, 1 page, 8.5? x 11?. Brooklyn, New York, January 6, 1936. One word holograph correction. To William J. Hinchman, Philadelphia. Fine condition. Salutation ?Dear Billy.? In full, ?Of course, at the present time, we have made no arrangements for our All-Star Game. This has to be worked out with the Commissioner. We will, however, place your letter on file so that we can take care of you when the proper time comes. Answering the last paragraph of your letter, we have no minor league clubs, and I do not know just when we could do anything for you at the present time. Why not write to Pittsburgh? They are tied up with two or three cubs and may be able to place you.? On December 10, 1935, four weeks before this letter was written, Bob Quinn became President of the Boston Braves. Three names are crossed out in red ink on this letterhead: EMIL E. FUCHS / PRESIDENT, GEORGE HERMAN RUTH / ASSISTANT MANAGER, and EDMUND P. CUNNINGHAM / SECRETARY.William J. ?Billy? Hinchman (1907-1940) was the son of former major leaguer William W. Hinchman (1883-1963), scout for the Pittsburgh Pirates from 1921-1958 who discovered, among others, Hall of Famers Arky Vaughan and Lloyd Waner. Billy was killed in an automobile accident when he was 32. Bob Quinn (1870-1954) was General Manager of the St. Louis Browns (1917-1922), majority owner of the Boston Red Sox (1923-1933), General Manager of the Brooklyn Dodgers (1934-1935), President of the Boston Braves (1936-1945), and President of the Baseball Hall of Fame from 1948-1951.
