Washington, DC: U. S. Government Printing Office, 1941 - Octavo (253 × 184 mm). Original japon-backed marbled boards, blue paper label to spine, top edge gilt, other edges untrimmed. Housed in a custom blue quarter morocco slipcase and chemise. With the bookplate of Donald Scott Carmichael and laid-in envelope label addressed to Archibald MacLeish from "The President". Pale foxing to japon; an excellent copy, internally fine. First edition, first printing. Number 42 of 75 copies printed privately for Roosevelt, signed by him on the limitation page and with a presentation inscription to the front free endpaper: "For Archie MacLeish With a Happy Christmas from Franklin D. Roosevelt". Archibald MacLeish (1892-1982) was a poet appointed, by Roosevelt, as the 9th Librarian of Congress in 1939. [Attributes: First Edition; Signed Copy]
