Pertusier was in Constantinople for several years as aide-de-camp to General Andreossy, the French Ambasador to the Porte, 1811-14. The atlas contains fine views of sites in and around Constantinople by Michel-François Preault, an architect who had travelled to Constantinople in 1796 with a French company of engineers engaged to construct new army and navy barracks. The atlas volume was published separately two years after the three octavo volumes of text, hence the variation in binding. Atabey 941; Blackmer 1292; Brunet IV, 523-524; Koç 204. [Attributes: First Edition; Hard Cover]
