Collection of 132 Colin De Land Fine Art and American Fine Arts, Company Exhibition Announcements
(New York: Colin De Land Fine Art and American Fine Arts Company 1986-2004) - Collection of 132 exhibition announcements from Colin De Land Fine Art and American Fine Arts, Company Gallery. De Land was the art world's enfant terrible in the 1990s, responsible for three commercial spaces in New York that bucked the notion of what a "commercial" gallery should do. His shows rarely opened on time, he never had a consistent stable of artists, and he occasionally showed work by artists who didn't exist. De Land's approach was a direct response to the bull market of the 1980s, and he fostered artists hailed for their strong, but often humorous, institutional critique. This sense of humor permeated his projects, and by the time he relocated to SoHo in 1988, American Fine Arts, Company was a laboratory and refuge for raucous minds. Collection includes announcements for Peter Nagy, John Dogg, Richard Prince, Peter Hopkins, Collins & Milazzo, Vito Acconci, Barbara Gladstone, Joseph Kosuth, Peter Fend, Cady Noland, Peter Nadin, Jeff Koons, Joel Shapiro, Christopher Williams, Frank Stella, Rob Pruitt, Carl Andre, John Waters, Gary Gross, and Mark Flood, among others. Cards range in size from 3 1/2" X 5" cards to 5" X 7" brochures. Uniformly close to fine.
