Day; Illustrated by James Poole, Fly Materials; 13, Errata, 92 Pages, 22 Descended Mounts; w9"xh11.2"; EXTREMELY RARE!!! Only 220 Copies were Produced, first book to use Actual Materials!!! ATTRIBUTES: A Beautiful, sleek original dark green cloth cover design with pretty black leaf/fish pictorials and a gorgeous gold pictorial centerpiece, with an ornate gold pictorial binding, stamped back borders, beveled cover edges, gold page edges, each page in a red border, with a brilliant Color Chromolithograph frontispiece of Llugwy North Wales, and another of Offerton Stepping Stones, Derbyshire, with Six Brilliant Thick Cardboard Mats with 22 sunken mounts, each containing numerous Real Materials/Samples of fur, feathers/string/line and 23 Flies, with round colored tabs. Plus, a Completed Grey & Green Drake at the End and a Great Read; Nice Size!!! SOME CONTENTS INCLUDED: LOCAL MARCH BROWN, SPING DUN, LITTLE CHAP, IRON BLUE OR WATCHETT, BLACK GNAT, TAILEY TAIL, LIGHT DUN, CROSSING BROWN, SMALL COMMON ANT, WILLOW FLEE, INDIAN YELLOW, SUMMER DUN, ETC.!!! BACKGROUND: "Both issues of this scarce work bear the date 1876 on the spine; a very few are recorded with a title page date of 1875, but it appears that no copies were actually sold until the Spring of 1876. Approximately 200 copies were sold over a period of several years" (James Cummins). "There exist to-day many books with excellent representations of artificial flies. But the best of all, for beauty and interest, is Aldam's ‘Quaint Treatise'" (Hills). The two large mayflies in the book ".were tied by James Ogden. These are the oldest surviving examples of which the author knows" (Betts). CONDITION: Condition is Good+/Very Good. Some wear to edges/corners/top/bottom of spine cloth, rubbing/wear to hinge cloth, few marks to back, bookplate Charles Fruen, pages are pretty good some light blemishing throughout mainly near margins, small old piece to tape to bottom of half title/pg.39, hinges/text block are very good, might be missing a couple materials, a few tabs just have a line/string so not sure if suppose to have something else there.
