Nonesuch Dickens
Nonesuch Press, Bloomsbury 1938 - One of 877 sets. Various colored cloths with black leather lablels. Spines (and top 1 &1/2 inch of one board) faded. One volume with small impact wound to spine. Cloth pulled slightly away from at hinge, but no break. Marking and light handling to boards. Overall, a very good set with good hinges and no foxing. Plate volume includes original steel plate (ingraved by Phiz) and framed pull from the plate of "Somebody Turns Up," illustration found opposite page 256 of "David Copperfield." With signed letter of authentication from Chapman & Hall in 1939 and a separate solicitation letter to original recipient of the set. Also, additional volume, "Nonesuch Dickensiania," published in 1937 by Nonesuch Press, containing an exposition on Dicken's illustrations, earlier Dickens editions and a prospectus on the Dickens Nonesuch edition, complete with an advance subscription form.
