[London]: Heinemann, [1962]. Octavo, original black boards, spine stamped in gold. First edition. "...this is a world as bleak and vicious as Nineteen Eighty-Four-and disturbingly closer, now, than Orwell's to our own." - Anatomy of Wonder (1995) 3-41. It was filmed by Stanley Kubrick in 1971, which interestingly is based on the first U.S. edition of the book which omitted the important last chapter. Pringle: Science Fiction: The 100 Best Novels #36. A fine copy in a fine first state dust jacket (wide flaps, printed price of 16s) with just very slight age fade to the color of the jacket spine, an excellent copy, housed in a custom tray case.
