The Secrets of Dr. Taverner -- ORIGINAL ART
St. Paul: Llewellyn Publications, 1962 - Original art, preliminary sketch for the cover of Dion Fortune's The Secrets of Dr. Taverner. An acolyte of Maxfield Parrish with his own distinctive style, Bok was one of the most extraordinary illustrators in the history of science fiction. A close friend of Ray Bradbury's, who has written several memoirs of Bok, the artist grew increasingly mystical in his latter years. This cover for a reprint of a collection of occult tales by a member of the Golden Dawn thus represents a perfect union of subject and artist. The drawing, which differs in detail from the published art, is executed in pencil on the thin translucent vellum Bok habitually used for his roughs. About 24" x 24" framed. [Attributes: First Edition]
