Published by S. Augustus Mitchell, 1834., 1834. First edition. 3 1/4" x 5 1/4" maroon cloth, titles and embroidered edges on front panel and embroidered edges on rear panel stamped in gold gilt. Contains foldout color map of the U. S. on one side and foldout statistical data sheet on the other side. The map is in full color and contains 24 states, 4 territories, and the District of Columbia. West Virginia is not yet a state. The Territories are Michigan, Arkansas, Florida, and Missouri. There are also nine inset color maps of Boston, Charleston, Baltimore and Washington, D.C., New York City, Albany, Philadelphia, Niagara Falls, Cincinnati, and New Orleans. The other foldout area contains statistical data along with a ten column index, four columns devoted to steam boat and canal routes, statistical table of states and territories which essentially provides the area of each state and its capitol, the different classes of inhabitants including whites, free blacks, and slaves, total population of the U. S. was 12,852,538 whites, free blacks, and slaves, heights of the principal U. S. mountains and hills, lengths of U. S. rivers, Lengths of principal railroads, and distances from Washington, D. C. to each state capitol. The color map is in fine condition, the statistical data sheet has a tear to one small panel, leaving all information complete and in very good condition.
