Limes Occidentis Quivira Et Anian
C.Wytfliet - Douai - - 29 x 23.5 - Uncoloured - Cornelis Wytfliet's atlas was the first to concentrate exclusively on the Americas. First published in 1597 as a supplement to Ptolemy, the "Descriptionis Ptolemaicae Augmentum", subsequent French editions appeared under the title "Histoire Universelle Des Indes Occidentales". This map of "Anian Regnum" is a scarce and important map. Copied from De Jode's map of 1593, this is the second to concentrate on the north-west coast. Cape Mendocino is among several identifiable locations within nomenclature that also encompasses many names of legend, such as Quivira and Cubirago. In good condition with good margins. - Burden, The Mapping Of North America, 107.
