Tractatus de Pascuis, Defensis, Forestis, et Aquis; Regum, Baronum
1730. Has a Section on Laws Concerning Olives and Olive Oil Rendella, Prospero. Tractatus de Pascuis, Defensis, Forestis, Et Aquis. Regum, Baronum, Communitatum & Singulorum. De Columbis, Et Columbariis. De Olea, Et Oleo Commentaria. Cum Indicibus Unicuiq; Operi Accomodatis. Trani: Typis Laurentii Valerii, 1730. [iv], 170, [10] pp. Folio (14-1/4" x 9"). Contemporary vellum, early calligraphic title to spine. Light rubbing to boards, some chipping to spine, corners bumped and somewhat worn, front free endpaper affixed to pastedown. Moderate browning and faint dampspotting to text, worming to margins in places, light edgewear to a few leaves, faint spot son title page and final leaf, possibly from a removed stamp. Early check marks to some index entries, interior otherwise clean. A nice copy of a scarce title. * Later edition, a reissue of a 1718 Neapolitan imprint by Paolo Severini. First published in Naples in 1618, this treatise addresses legal and economic aspects of agriculture and natural resources including fields, forests, watercourses, game birds, such as doves, waters and watercourses. Due perhaps to its Neapolitan origins, it pays particular attention to the cultivation of olives and the production of olive oil. A useful work, it went through several editions into the mid-eighteenth century. All are scarce. OCLC locates few copies of any edition in North America, none of the 1730 Trani edition (at Harvard Law School). Not in Camus or the British Museum Catalogue. Donno, Biblioteca Sistematica dell'Olivo e dell'Olio d'Oliva 28.
