Oxford: William Jackson, 1764 - 2 volumes, quarto (274 × 206 mm). Contemporary half calf, red morocco label, spine lettered in gilt with raised bands, marbled sides, red speckled edges. Housed in a custom purple slipcase. 2 armorial bookplates, one to the front pastedown and one to the first blank. Binding rubbed, headcaps worn, joint of volume I tender. Internally fine, overall a very good set. Frontispiece and folding genealogical table. First edition of Phillips' hagiographic portrait of the English cardinal and last Catholic Archbishop of Canterbury, holding the office during the Counter Reformation. With a contemporary twenty line holograph critical inscription on the front free endpaper.
