1700 COCKTAILS For the Man Behind the Bar
William Heinemann Ltd 1934 - First edition. 12mo. Publisher's full blue morocco, lettered in gilt on the spine. A near fine copy, gilt bright, slight scuffing to the joints an spine ends. Rare. The genesis of the cocktail may be shrouded in myth, but it was undoubtedly during Prohibition (a period from 1920-1933 when the United States of America banned all alcoholic beverages) that a variety of different concoctions were created to disguise the taste of poor alcohol. The concept of "mixing" crossed the Atlantic, and during the 1920s and 30s London's barmen, catering to the "bright young things" of the day, developed a large array of different cocktails. De Fleury, a veteran London barman sought to bring all of these recipes together in one manual. Printed in an edition of only 5,000 copies it is difficult to find in nice condition. [Attributes: First Edition; Hard Cover]
