Fourth edition, re-arranged and enlarged. *Tipped-in before the Preface are two autograph letters from co-editor Horatia K. Eden (who was the daughter of Mrs. Alfred Gatty), to Christopher Markham. The first (6 pages), is dated 26 April 1918; the second (4 pages), is dated 3 March 1908; both refer to sundials. A postcard to Major Markham, advertising another book on sundials, is tipped-in at p. 81. In addition to the marginalia, several handwritten quotations or notes have been tipped-in at pp. 323, 327, 419, and 441; presumably all these are in Major Markham's hand. A relevant newscutting and small catalogue slip for this book are tipped-in at the end. The appendix, On the construction of sun-dials, is by J. Wigham Richardson.
