Portfolio Of New Zealand Birds - 30/200
Seto New Zealand - Here is an extraordinary - and extraordinarily rare - portfolio of twelve facsimile Raymond Ching pencil drawings. This was issued only in a very limited edition of 200 signed sets, and was only made available in New Zealand. The set is contained within a large wooden box, specially made for this set. This particular set is number 30, which is engraved on a brass plate, mounted on the lid of the box. Ray Ching’s gorgeous drawings are much admired, highly sought after, and avidly collected, and rightly so. The box is lined with green baize, and each sheet has a tissue cover. All are signed by Ray. The sheets are numbered and have additionally got reproduced signatures. In some cases there are notes by RC. The sheets are printed on New Zealand flax paper, chosen because Ulrich Schmid, a Swiss chemical engineer, who has spent a lifetime in the paper industry, considers this to be the best in the world for the reproduction of fine art. Certainly it looks very similar to the paper Ray Ching uses. All the sheets have been left with one feathered edge, to to show the structure of the hand made sheets. The result is stunningly convincing. The pencil is reproduced so well it looks as if you could smudge the drawings! The box itself is 28x20" and each print measures 26x18”. The lid has some very minor damage on the extreme edge. However, this is not a serious problem, and the magnificent drawings are all safe and well. There is an introduction with notes included. Each sheet is facsimile autographed and additionally personally signed by RC. I have a number of other RC books and prints, most signed, some numbered and limited, and a few with original drawings. I have one original drawing from Ray’s wonderful limited edition book, ‘Studies and Sketches of a Bird Painter’. I have catalogues, magazines, and other books which feature RC. It is scandalous that this greatly and genuinely gifted artist is not on the radar of the pipsqueaks and grovelers who run the art world today. We are asked to applaud empty rooms, piles of fat on a chair, and canned human excrement. The people who urge you to throw away your common sense and look on all this nonsense as if it is a new Vermeer are sad and mistaken. It must also be said that these people merely repeat all the vacuous and empty rhetoric of the now deeply reactionary forces that have filled our public collections with this nonsense work. And these same people will not look objectively and honestly at the work of people like Raymond Ching. The majority of curators ignore the stunningly great work being produced today by imaginative and gifted painters like Ching. That is a shame, because it is a privilege to see these extraordinary works. It would be gratifying to see Ching's work being widely exhibited throughout the world. As long as there is an evangelistic dedication to obscurantism by the world's museum curators the rest of the world will be denied the pleasure of seeing this great master's work.
