A Burlesque Translation of Homer (Two Volumes) Homer Travestie. The Fourth Edition improved
London: G. G. and J. Robinson. Printed by S. Hamilton, 1797. Full Calf. Near Fine. Scarce in hand-colored form. 8vo. 23 by 14.5 cm. [2], 360, 432 pp. With 25 hand-colored plates, plus colored title vignettes. The twelve books of Homer's Iliad parodied, with the illustrations depicting eighteenth century menfolk, and in spirit the parody is taking as much aim at the contemporary scene as the classic epic itself. Spines slightly darkened and drier, with a few scuffs. Missing the title labels. Light rubbing along joints, and a four small stain spots clustered by lower joint on Vol. 1. Pages and plates of both volumes clean and fresh.
