London: John Murray, 1885 - Octavo. Original green cloth, titles to spine gilt, panelling to boards in blind, brown coated endpapers. Contemporary ownership signature to half-title Fold out diagram. Sixth edition (twenty-eighth thousand), with additions and corrections. On its first appearance in 1872 the sixth edition was the final lifetime edition of the book, with extensive revisions, a new chapter by Darwin, and the first use of the word evolution in this book (the term was originally used in The Descent of Man in 1871). The sixth edition was reprinted from stereotype plates for the rest of the century. The Origin of Species was originally published in 1859.
