New York: P.F.Collier & Son, [1911] - One of the earliest histories of the game, tenth on Grobani's chronological list of general histories. Contains a review of the 1910 season, pitching instructions, a review of the minor league, and biographies of star players. The chapter on baseball's origins mentions Doubleday only in passing, and instead credits New Yorker Alex J. Cartwright and the Knickerbocker Club with the invention of baseball. Spalding's Our National Game, also published in 1911, would help cement the Doubleday creation myth First edition. Folio. Illustrated with a frontispiece by Charles Dana Gibson; photographically illustrated throughout. Original pictorial boards, maroon cloth back; rubbed and lightly stained. Hinges reinforced.
