The Eustace Diamonds [First Edition]
London: Chapman and Hall, 1873. First edition. Hardcover. Very Good. A Very Good copy of the first UK edition of this Trollope triple-decker novel, bound in 3/4 blue leather with coordinated blue cloth, top edge of the closed page blocks gilded (rubbing to spine head of Volumes I and III, the leading edge of Volume II's front board shows rubbing through, modest rubbing through to the board corners); the third novel in Trollope's famed Palliser series which tells the tale of the adventuress Lizzy Greystock who Gerould describes as "the very beautiful, superficially clever and completely selfish daughter of an admiral who was no credit whatever to the British Navy". Lizzy Greystock beguiles the wealthy Sir Florian Eustace, traps him in marriage just prior to his death, and thereby comes into possession of a very expensive diamond necklace which she alleges to have been a gift to her from Sir Florian and which his family claims to be a non-tranferrable family heirloom.
