This copy was sent to our founder, Peter Keisogloff (1900-95), with the handwritten personal letter, mentioned above, signed by Sir William Russell Flint: From Sir William Russell Flint, R.A. Peel Cottage, 80 Peel Street, Campden Hill, W.8 Park 6561. March 1. 1965 My dear Peter Keisogloff, I deliberately omit the formal "Mr" because, although we only met once, I regard you as a good friend. With this there will arrive a little book of my own, Shadows in Arcady. It is an experiment not only in story-telling but to some extent in typography, every item being my own placing + design. It is to be published on April 4, my 85th birthday + I do hope you will like it. In fact a word from you about it would be very welcome indeed. I treasure the volume containing reproductions of my "Greek" illustrations which you so kindly sent me, already almost two years ago. With Kindest regards + all good Wishes, Sincerly yours, [signed]: WRussell Flint/. Provenance: from the personal collection of our founder, Peter Keisogloff, who was a great admirer of Flint's work. [Author's statement]: My love of good typography and intense appreciation of the masterpieces of early printers have moved me to the production of this book. The decision to print four of my own stories instead of some beloved classic allows me liberty to indulge in caprices of arrangement which I devoutly hope will not detract from their sincerity. Three of these stories are true. One is at least half-true. Some names, not all, have been discreetly altered. The stories are honourably introduced by one friend, Adrian Bury, and, later, are saluted equally honourably by another friend, Gordon Roe. Any extravagance of presentation must be attributed to my own waywardness, not to my patient and erudite printer, Charles Skilton. WRF. Sold together only, the copy of the book, with the ALS. Weight; 1 1/2 lbs. [Attributes: First Edition; Signed Copy; Hard Cover]
