Brook Farm: The Amusing and Memorable of American Country Life
London - Wertheim, Macintosh and Hunt 1859 - A scarce, presumed first and only edition of this mid nineteenth-century account of American country life. Very detailed and a unique source. Featuring an engraved frontispiece. With a bookseller's label for J. B. Brown, 'Bookseller to Her Majesty', Castle Street, Windsor, to the front pastedown. The rear pastedown has a bookbinder's label for Edmonds and Remnants, London. Condition: In a cloth binding. Externally,bumped and rubbed to extremities, with marks. The spine is faded, with loss to the top and tail. Hinges weak. Internally, generally firmly bound, although strained in places, with a number of pages working loose. The penultimate gathering is held by two cords only. Generally bright, with intermittent light foxing prominent to the margins and endpapers, and the odd handling mark. There are some tidemarks to the endpapers, and a copperplate ink inscription to the front pastedown. A scarce and interesting item. Overall: GOOD ONLY. [Attributes: Hard Cover]
