Signed Photograph of the 25th President of the United States WILLIAM McKINLEY
- McKINLEY, WILLIAM. (1843-1901). Twenty fifth president of the United States. SP. ("William McKinley"). Possibly as president. 1p. An oversized, sepia, Imperial portrait measuring 10" by 12" taken by Boston photographer Elmer Chickering depicting a stern-looking statesman. N.p. N.d. (dated "'94" in the negative, but noted on the verso in an unidentified but contemporary hand, "Executive Mansion, Washington, DC, June 1, 1897). The mount has an unusual, silver-beveled edge with silver embossed lettering, above which the future president has signed his name. A Civil War veteran, lawyer and congressman, McKinley became governor of Ohio in 1891 and served two terms before his successful bid for the presidency in 1896. He held America's highest office from 1897-1901, during which time he helped restore the U.S. economy after the panic of 1893. He also led the country during the Spanish-American War. His 1901 assassination by a Polish immigrant led to Theodore Roosevelt's presidency. Corners slightly bumped. Otherwise an outstanding and impressive image in fine condition. Framed. * All our items are sent via Federal Express. Additional postage may be necessary. [Attributes: Signed Copy]
