Plan de la baie de MONTEREY Situee dans la Californie Settentrionale
Paris., 1797. Size: 330 x 485 mm. Copper engraving. Uncoloured. Fine condition, good margins. A crisp clear map of the Bay of Monterey on California. Relief shown by hachures - 'Montagnes de St.Lucie' and a few other features are shown- 'Dunes de Sable', but the map was drawn before any town existed on the bay. This map is from the Voyages of La Perouse who set sail from France in 1785 to continue the discoveries of Captain Cook. He was shipwrecked in 1788 but his narrative, maps, and views survived and were published in 1797. Published 'Atlas du Voyage de la Perouse' No.34.
