Handbook for Travellers in Russia, Poland, and Finland; including the Crimea, Caucasus, Siberia, and Central Asia. Fifth Edition, thoroughly revised.
London: John Murray, 1893 - Small octavo. Original red cloth on card wraps, title gilt to the spine and upper board, panels in blind to both wraps, teal surface paper endpapers with ads, red silk page-marker present but detached. Bookseller's ticket of The Galignani library, Paris and Nice to the front pastedown. Just a little rubbed, the spine sunned, a few very minor splits to the folds of the maps, repaired verso with archival tape, a very good copy indeed. 2 folding city plans - St. Petersburg and Moscow - two folding maps, Finland and the large travelling map of Russia in an end-pocket , 3 full-page floor-plans - Hermitage picture galleries, the Kremlin, and the Cathedral of the Assumption. Fifth edition, revised, this title first published 1865. Delayed due to the "unexpectedly rapid exhaustion" (Preface) of the previous edition of 1887 - which was "published at the time of the Russo-Turkish War" (Lister) - this edition was revised to take account of the "strong stimulus to the tourist traffic" given by "the continual extension of Railways the improvement of accommodation at Hotels, and generally the greater facilities afforded to travellers." A very good copy of the 22pp Phrase Book of the Use of Travellers in Russia, 1899, in the end-pocket with the map. Lister 93
