Wonder Book
Ticknor and Co. Boston 1852 - First Edition, Very Good+/ No Jacket, Decorative Cloth. Here is the Beautiful First edition of The Wonder Book. This First American edition (BAL 7606) was published by Ticknor, Reed and Fields on November 8th, 1851. So although the title page reads 1852 this is actually an 1851 publication. This copy is in the original blue cloth binding with fine blindstamping to the boards and gilt lettering to the spine. The boards are in great shape and the spine has a little bit of 'wrinkling'. There is a small faded bookseller stamp at the upper right corner of the ffep. The gilt remains bright and beautiful. There appears to have been no restoration whatsoever on this copy. The volume has the original pale yellow endpapers and the textblock shows some foxing at the very front and the very back of the book. The worst of this is on the title page. Most of the textblock is quite clean. The first couple of preliminary pages are a bit tender where they meet the spine. There is something of a lean to the book but it is not too bad. This is an extremely rare book. This is one of Nathaniel Hawthorne's most beloved works and it is still enjoyed by children of all ages. The stories are based on mythology and each one has a lesson to teach. An important and rare piece of American Literary History. We are pleased to send pictures on request. [Attributes: First Edition; Hard Cover]
