Roberts Brothers, Boston USA 1892 - A very attractive issue when published as a strictly limited edition of 250 copies, in 1892, this copy has been rebound at a later date and to a very high standard indeed. This elegant result magnifies its virtues. The leather spine which wraps around the front and back boards, has gilt titling, and five raised bands. The cover boards are in a hard grain brown cloth, with Jane Austen's signature in gilt on the front. The text block has been kept exactly as issued, which means the three edges are attractively untrimmed. The high quality hot pressed paper has taken the text cleanly, as befits the very limited print run of just 250 copies. The frontispiece is a clean print of an etching, showing Anne and Henrietta walking on the sands. A plate mark shows clearly around this delightful picture, which is tissue guarded and captioned in red. The grading is Near Fine, but this is taking the age of the book into consideration. The corners of the cloth cover boards are a bit soft. A most attractive and enduring collectable, this is bound well enough to last for generations, as befits this imperishable classic.
