Bieber was the editor of the first 8 volumes but had his contract canceled because he took a while producing his manuscripts, and LeRoy R. Hafen was asked to complete the series. The last volume is an index which also contains a list of documents publishes in the series, and a list of maps, portraits and illustrations, as well as an analytical index.The set comprises a wonderful collection of southwestern travel account, including thos of Webb, Gbson, Johnston, Bandel, Cooke and McCoy as well as compendiums of rare documents relating to the Colorado gold rush, Pike's Peak gold rush, southern trails into California in 1849 and the entire Southwest.
