The Frederick Knight Collection of Chinese Ceramics and Lacquer (KNIGHTS PERSONAL COPY)
Sotheby Parke Bernet, Hong Kong 1982 - First edition. Octavo. Softcover. Good with pen annotations and prices throughout by Knight. 56 Pages, 46 lots described in English and Chinese and mostly depicted in colour. A few in black and white. Frederick Knight was the nephew of Henry Knight, one of the leading collectors of the 20th century, and lived with his uncle as a boy. After Henry Knight's death in 1970 the collection was divided up into three parts, the process being overseen by Roger Bluett and Brian Morgan. One third of the collection was inherited by Henry's nephew, F.W.A. Knight. Frederick Knight was a difficult character, but a collector with flair, determination and a fine eye for quality. He was very much a Bluett client according to Dominic Jellinek. This catalogue of the single owner sale of Frederick Knights collection sold at Sotheby's Hong Kong on 18th May 1982 is the personal copy of Frederick with his annotations of buyers, such as Eskenazi, Marchant, Spink, Bluett, Robert Chang and Kwan and of course the prices realised. Frederick had moved to Thailand with his wife until his fatal death. This catalogue was given to the previous owner by Fredericks wife during his 2 week visit to the Knight home. Sheets with estimates and prices realised inserted. A remarkably interesting catalogue with historic provenance and history. [Attributes: First Edition; Soft Cover]
