Warne & Co 1906 - First edition, first issue. Folding wallet style panorama, green wallet with writing in dark green and onlay of the rabbit to the upper flap. Mottled lavender endpapers. This is a very good example of this fragile production. The book is clean and attractive, with some wear to the area around tab fastening. The story is told on a folding panorama, which alternates text and illustration. There are a total of fourteen colour plates. Two of the Potter tales were first published in this panorama format, this one and "Miss Moppet". Once the panoramas reached the retailers it was immediately realised that, despite popularity, they were too difficult for small hands to cope with and the panoramas were being easily damaged. The panoramas were withdrawn and the two stories were reprinted 10 years later in book form. It is now very uncommon to find the panoramas in such nice condition.
