Roberts Brothers, Boston 1890 - First Printing. In the publisher's original three-piece binding with a wavy vertical rule separating a gray cloth spine from white cloth-covered boards. Myerson's 'B' binding [no priority], with the wavy rule and the first three lines on the front cover stamped in gilt rather than silver. The spine is dull with some rubbing at the head and the foot, but with virtually no loss to the cloth. There's some soiling to the covers, and a light damp stain to the upper corner of the front board and the fore edge of the rear board, with some resultant, albeit fairly light, internal staining. The upper two inches of the front hinge is starting, and there is a tasteful previous owner bookplate on the front pastedown. A good copy, without repair or restoration, of an important volume. While First Editions of the Second and Third Series of poems turn up quite regularly, First Printings of the seminal First Series appear on the market ever more infrequently. One of 500 copies. Myerson A 1.1.a. [Attributes: First Edition]
