Le Centennaire de l'Imprimerie. Lithograph by Joan MIRO (M.190).
Paris: Mourlot, 1953 - Paris: Mourlot, 1953, lithograph in colors; aside from the edition of 75, this is an artist's proof, signed in pencil and inscribed 'EA' by Joan Miro; on Arches wove paper, printed to the edges, the full sheet; 19.75 x 26 in. (505 x 660 mm). Handsomely framed with double mats and plexi, frame with gold leaf; frame size 28.5 x 34.5 in. (72 x 88 cm); in excellent condition. Reference: Mourlot 190. Provenance: Sotheby's NY. This early print in colors, at the time when Miro's graphics were predominantly in blacks, displays an intricacy of the background design and multitude of Miro's surreal figures, which are floating throughout the composition. Highlighted by the red sun and grounded by the black rectangular shape, this constitutes the connection between Earth and the Universe, making this image an all-connecting icon of Life. This print is considered Miro's best litho, although he did create much later some complex images in other media, such as his large carborundum etchings. [Attributes: Signed Copy; Soft Cover]
