James Joyce, Portrait, Original Dye Transfer Print Signed By Gisèle Freund
1977 - Photographic portrait of James Joyce (1882-1941) by Gisèle Freund, signed in ink on lower corner of print. It also has a small dry stamp, and Gisèle Freund's ink stamp on back of photograph. This print is probably extracted from the portfolio "Au Pays des Visages", published in 1977 by Harry Lunn, which included 10 portraits of artists and writers by Gisèle Freund, shot in the years 1938-1939. The total edition was 36. The dry prints seem to have been made by Georges Meguerditchian. This particular portrait of James Joyce shot in 1939, the year Finnegan's Wake was published, illustrates many covers of books, magazine and now blogs on the internet and is in the collection of the RMN (Réunions des Musées Nationaux) The size of the photograph is 30,5/20,5cm, on a sheet size 46/35,5 cm, mounted on a mat with passe-partout size 51/40,7cm.
