Photii, Sanctissimi Patriarchae Constantinopolitani Epistolae. Per reverendum virum Richardum Montacutium norvicensem nuper episcopum, Latine redditae, & notis subinde illustratae
Roger Daniel, London 1651 - Brown calf binding, plain blind-stamped borders front and back, spine with five raised bands, no lettering; leather splitting at foot of spine, corners bumped but basically very sound. ESTC R12714. An owner's name is written in brown copperplate hand on the titlepage "Ralph Stephen Pemberton, Oct . . . 1839". FFE, titlepage, and following five pages are rubbed and worn away at the outside edge and top corner, but otherwise this is a good copy for its age. Photius was Patriarch of Constantinople between 858 and 886, and known in the Eastern Orthodox Churches as St Photios The Great. This editio princeps of his letters was edited and translated into Latin by Richard Montague, later Bishop of Norwich. [Attributes: Hard Cover]
