The Adventures Of Ji
S.W. Partridge & Co - 5" x 7.5" black title on blue cloth with colour illustration to front board of bipedal fieldmouse with little boy in Victorian dress. No date, 1st edition 1906. Pages are pretty tanned and vignetted, spine cracked at feps with mild cracking in one or two other places. Slight damage to top of outside of spine which is very faded, neat previous owners's name and date (Xmas 1914) to endpaper, 3"x1.5" label stuck to free ep, presumably obscuring inscription, otherwise Very Good. Little known among the reading public though sought after by collectors, G.E. Farrow enlists the skills of the extraordinary artist, Charles Tresidder. Dozens of 'Beatrix- Potter-on-acid', type illustrations throughout the book make this an amazing find. Photos don't do the quality or imaginative genius of the illustrator justice. An amazing book. There are currently no copies for sale, at least none listed or advertised, anywhere on the internet. In fact, the rarity of this book is such that there are to my knowledge, only records of three other copies; one in The British Library, one in Oxford University Library and one in The National Library of Scotland. This is a very, very rare book and despite its faults still represents to the serious collector with the only current possibility of acquiring an impossibly rare find. Additional photos available on request. [Attributes: First Edition; Hard Cover]
