First edition hard back binding in publisher's original chestnut brown cloth covers bound by Remnant & Edmonds of London, gilt title and author lettering to the spine and to the upper panel. 8vo. 7'' x 4½''. Contains 157 printed pages of text followed by a list of works by Dr. Mantell. Frontispiece shows Dovecote of Lewes Priory, vignette to the title page showing the Western Keep of Lewes Castle, seven other monochrome figures. Small clipping about Lewes titled 'The Walke and Taulke About Lewes' has been adhered to the bottom of page 147. Armorial bookplate of Ernest Bryan Gipps to the front paste down, a little age spotting to the preliminaries, 20 mm splitting of the upper joint to the foot of the spine, corners turned-in and in Very Good clean condition.
