JOHN MURRAY, London 1929 - Published during Arthur Conan Doyle's Lifetime. - A VERY RARE FIRST PRINT OF THIS VERY SCARCE BOOK. The CONAN DOYLE Stories. 6 Volumes in 1. The Ring and the Camp, Pirates and Blue Water, Terror and Mystery, Twilight and the Unseen, Adventure and Medical Life, Tales of Long Ago, 76 Stories - 1216 pages. [stated on front of dustjacket]. by SIR ARTHUR CONAN DOYLE [First Edition in One Volume] - Preface by ARTHUR CONAN DOYLE is dated: April 26, 1929. On the inner prelim of the facsimile dustjacket, there is a message from Sir Winston Churchill who wrote: 'Of course I read every Sherlock Holmes story, but the works I like even more than the detective stories are the great historical novels which, like Sherlock Holmes, have certainly found a permanent place in English literature'. ~ This volume comprises most of Conan Doyle's short stories other than those relating to the great detective Sherlock Holmes. CONDITION: The facsimile dustjacket bears the price of 20s net to the bottom of the inner front prelim. This was produced from a first edition that had light water damage to the bottom. It was a little soiled but it looks good on the book. The dustjacket is enclosed in a plastic protective sleeve. Boards are of rust coloured cloth with gold/gilt lettering to the spine and front board and is still quite clear to read. The rust colour on the spine has faded, moreso than the boards have. Cloth on both sides of the spine has partial splitting but the binding remains tight despite this. This is a heavy little book that weights in at 800grams. Red topstain in good order and clean. There is a minimum amount of foxing to the endpages and occasional throughout the book. Browning to page edges. End of description. ~ Two bonus items: 1. Arthur Conan Doyle's Preprinted Signature, 2. Preprinted copy of a cheque signed by Arthur Conan Doyle. Dated Aug 9. 1924 for the amazing sum of: 'one pound, four and ninepence'. I'll just pop these in the front of the book. They are printed on glossy paper. ----- POSTAGE OPTIONS: Our orders are shipped within 1 or 2 business days. - Thanks for your interest and I hope you like the book enough to buy it. - Regards from Arabella. [Attributes: First Edition; Hard Cover]
