London - B.T. Batsford 1898 - A scarce first UK edition of this classic work on interior design, and Wharton's first book to be published under her married name. Featuring numerous plates and a decorative titlepage. There is a publisher's catalogue to the rear. Edith Wharton, born Edith Newbold Jones (1862-1937) was a Pulitzer Prize-winning American novelist, short story writer and designer. She is best remembered for her novels 'The House of Mirth', 'Ethan Frome' and 'The Age of Innocence'. Ogden Codman (1863-1951) was a noted American architect and interior decorator in the Beaux Arts style. Condition: In a cloth binding with blindstamped decoration. Externally, very good indeed with justsome minor shelfwear. Internally, generally firmly bound. Generally bright and clean, with just occasional spots, and the odd handling mark. There is some dusting to the extreme outer margins. Overall: VERY GOOD. [Attributes: Hard Cover]
