The Hub: An Illustrated Weekly for Wheelmen and Wheelwomen. Volume I (August 8-October 31, 1896) and Volume II (November 7, 1896-January 30, 1897)
George Newnes, London - Two volumes bound as one. Volume I: 7 (index), 520 pages. Volume II: 6 (index), 544 pages. Profusely illustrated in b/w. Many interesting advertisements throughout. Original maroon cloth (heavily flecked) with gilt titling and rules on the spine. Small hole in cloth spine. Slight waterstains on first few pages, which have a few short closed tears. Rare first volumes of this fascinating magazine from the heyday of cycling. The Hub was a short-lived publication, only surviving for thirteen volumes from 1996-1899. It's especially interesting in that it tried very hard to attract women readers with many articles on cycling fashions, health, social news, advice, etc. A regular feature was "Women of Note in the Cycling World". Women feature in many of the illustrations and advertisements. [Attributes: Hard Cover]
