Autograph Letter Signed
- ("A Conan Doyle") to an unnamed correspondent (Dear Sir) 1 page with integral leaf the paper watermarked "Ancient Scottish Vellum" with large coat of arms, 7" x 4 1/4", Hindhead, Haslemere, ca. 1914-1920. Referring to a letter he wrote to 'The Times' and the help he has received from Germans in England since its publication, and saying that he is willing to answer further questions raised by his book. Very good. This letter possibly refers to Conan Doyle's work, The British Campaigns in Europe, his history of the First World War. A patriot in the traditional sense, he had volunteered and served in the Boer War. In his letters to The Times and Pamphlets such as To Arms, Conan Doyle expounded the moral case for war against Germany and was enormously influential. See Green & Gibson: B12, B13, B14, B15, B16, B18 for his several books and pamphlets on the subject of Germany and war. Doyle (1859-1930), Scottish-born physician and author; creator of master detective Sherlock Holmes, one of the literary world's most famous characters. [Attributes: Signed Copy]
