THE CASE BOOK OF SHERLOCK HOLMES
1927 - London: John Murray, (1927). Original rose cloth. First Edition of the fifth and last collection of Sherlock Holmes adventures (there had also been four full-length Holmes novels). After each of the collections (except the first), Doyle claimed that he was through with Sherlock; here, Doyle in his preface again says "And so, reader, farewell to Sherlock Holmes!", and this time he meant it -- if only because Doyle himself had only three more years to live. The twelve cases include those of "the Illustrious Client," "the Mazarin Stone," "the Three Garridebs" and "Shoscombe Old Place." ~This volume is in unusually fine condition (lacking the very scarce dust jacket); atypically, the rose spine of the volume is not faded. Green & Gibson A46a. [Attributes: First Edition; Hard Cover]
