ABEL JANSZOON TASMAN’S JOURNAL, rare facsimile limited edition
N A Kovach of Los Angeles 1965 - Abel Janszoon Tasman’s JOURNAL, rare facsimile limited edition, large hard cover with jacket (note that the jacket is protected by clear Mylar and that it is the Mylar that is clear-taped, NOT the jacket, the jacket is in very good condition with minor blemishes and generally light wear mainly to edges), dated 1965, published by N A Kovach of Los Angeles, LIMITED EDITION, only 225 printed, and of those only 200 were for sale. Measures about 11 ½ x 17 ½ inches. Includes maps and illustrations, facsimile handwritten notes and then the journal typed out along with additional information. About 350 or more pages and includes ALL 5 of the beautiful folded maps in the back pocket! Given the size and weight the binding feels a little weak but is firm and good to very good. Minor blemishes, the most visible problem is a few small blemishes/stains along the page edges when closed – not bad. Small ding to one hard cover corner. There is a lengthy Wiki entry for Abel Janszoon Tasman, From there: “(Dutch: 1603–1659) was a Dutch seafarer, explorer and merchant, best known for his voyages of 1642 and 1644 in the service of the VOC (Vereenigde Oost-Indische Compagnie) (United East India Company). He was the first known European explorer to reach the islands of Van Diemen's Land (now Tasmania) and New Zealand ” [Attributes: Hard Cover]
