Natürliche Muster neuer Zeug-Fabrik-Artikel. [From: Allgemeines europäisches Journal.
[Brünn, Traßler, 1794-1798]. - 57 engr. plates with 192 mounted colour cloth specimens, 10 mounted specimens of coloured paper, and 19 engraved designs in original hand colour. Individually matted. All cloth designs published in the Brünn monthly edited by Franz Joseph Theodor Frantzky between 1794 and 1798, including occasional specimens of coloured paper and engraved designs. The "Allgemeine Europäische Journal" aimed at instruction as well as at entertainment. To save money, most articles were reprinted from foreign newspapers (mainly from Leipzig); the Moravian focus was toned down so as not to endanger sales outside the country. Politically conservative in a time of revolutionary upheaval, the journal emphasized economic themes: "The items on industry and the trade, which were given much space in the pages of the periodical, praised the products of local Brno workshops and factories, especially cloth and textiles [.] With the growing threat of war, interest ultimately dwindled, and the journal was shut down" (cf. Zeman). - Fine complete series of the cloth specimens, almost always lacking from preserved copies of the journal. Kirchner 1281. Diesch 1230a. Jaromír Zeman, Zu sprachlichen Entwicklungstendenzen in den Brünner Regionalzeitungen, in: Dtspr. Zeitungen in Mittel- u. Osteuropa [ed. by J. Riecke et al., Berlin 2005], p. 311-328.
