Benjamin White, London 1784 - 2 vols complete, 1784, 52 pls, 3 eng tps. Two volumes in contemporary tree calf, corners and edges lightly bumped and worn, odd mark. Spines, both relaid, decorative gilt tooling, titles in gilt to maroon calf labels. Internally, bookplates of James Heywood to both fpds, hinges strengthened, board edges with gilt tooling. Vol 1, engraved titlepage, [10], [1], 2-488 pp, [8], index, 26 pls (9 folding, 2 portrait), 1 vignette. Vol 2, two engraved title pages, [2], (ii),[4], [1], 2-487, [8] index, 26 pls, 2 engraved tps, 4 vignettes, some offsetting, spotting and browning. Vol. 2 has an additional titlepage, engraved, reading: ¿The journey to Snowdon¿ with the imprint: London: printed by Henry Hughes, 1781. A nice copy of Pennant's three tours in Wales. (ESTC T213985. Lowndes 1823. Anderson 335. LibWalia 3928 & 32) Pennant, naturalist, traveller, and writer, whose accounts which he wrote of his journeys in Scotland, to London, and especially in North Wales, are among his best literary works. The first volume of his Tours in Wales was published in 1778, the second in 1781 (the first part under the title A Journey in Snowdonia ).
